Notice: Civil & Family Court Dates Postponed

Notice: Civil & Family Court Dates Postponed

by Mar 18, 2020COVID-19

Please be aware that the Sonoma County civil and family court system is currently operating at a severely reduced capacity due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

At the time of this article’s publication, all civil and family courthouses in Sonoma County have been closed until at least April 3rd. Any court dates that were originally scheduled between now and April 3rd are postponed until further notice. In an effort to prevent any additional spread of the coronavirus, this order may be extended until such a time as public safety can be assured and there is no threat to court personnel.

Family Court Exceptions

Currently, the only exceptions being made for family law courts are emergency requests. Please consult an attorney to determine if your case qualifies as a family law emergency.

Civil Court Exceptions

Certain types of critical cases will be allowed to proceed in civil court. These include:

  • Family law domestic violence ex parte review
  • Civil harassment ex parte review
  • Foreclosure injunction review
  • Unlawful detainer ex parte review

All other civil matters have been postponed until the Sonoma County Health Officer and other local authorities advise that normal operations can continue.

As the situation both locally and nationally develops, these circumstances might change. Again, we strongly encourage anyone who is uncertain of the status of their case to contact their attorney immediately if they have not provided guidance already.
